When you need more help feeling comfortable
IV sedation offers a deeper level of relaxation for patients who feel especially anxious about dental treatment or have a longer procedure ahead. The medication takes effect quickly, and Dr. Cho can adjust it throughout your visit based on what you need.
You’ll continue breathing on your own and can respond when needed, but you’ll be deeply relaxed and may remember very little afterward. Dr. Cho offers Portland IV sedation for procedures such as wisdom tooth removal, extractions, and implant surgery, as well as for patients who want to complete more treatment in fewer visits.

IV sedation is the right fit if you
Feel real panic about the dentist, not just dislike
Need surgery: wisdom teeth, an implant, or a difficult extraction
Have a strong gag reflex or trouble getting fully numb
Want several procedures combined into one visit
Have avoided care for years and don’t know where to start
For a routine cleaning or filling, nitrous usually does the job and wears off before you drive home. Oral sedation sits in between. Dr. Cho will tell you at the consult if one of those is enough.
How it works
-
Consult
Dr. Cho reviews your health history and medications and decides whether IV is the right level. You get eating and medication instructions for the day and a reminder to bring a driver.
-
The day
The IV goes in, and within minutes you’re relaxed. You’re numbed, monitored throughout, and the sedation is adjusted as the procedure goes. Most patients feel like it was over in a moment.
-
After
You go home with your driver and written aftercare. Plan to rest the remainder of the day. We check in on how you’re doing.
Why anxious Portland patients choose Life Bloom Dental
-
The dentist doing the surgery is the one running the sedation
Dr. Cho earned his DMD at OHSU and trains more than 100 hours a year, with a focus on sedation and implant surgery. No outside anesthesiologist, no separate surgical center.
-
No judgment about how long it’s been
Tell us when you book. The first visit gets planned around what you’re ready for.
-
Comfort before the IV goes in
Headphones, a weighted blanket, a massage mat, a TV on the ceiling. Sedation starts after you’re already settled.
Paying for your care
-

With insurance
Some plans cover IV sedation when it’s tied to a surgical procedure. We check your benefits and give you a written estimate before treatment.

For larger treatments
Cherry Finance spreads the cost of sedation and surgery over monthly payments. Cash, check, and card all work too.
Questions people ask a Portland sedation dentist about IV sedation
Will I be asleep?
Not fully. IV sedation puts you in a twilight state where you’re deeply relaxed and breathing on your own, but you won’t be aware of the procedure and are unlikely to remember it. It’s different from general anesthesia in a hospital.
Is IV sedation safe at a dentist’s office?
Dr. Cho reviews your medical history and medications first, monitors your vitals the entire time, and adjusts the dose as needed. He only recommends IV when it’s appropriate for you.
Do I need someone to drive me?
Yes. A responsible adult needs to bring you and take you home, and you shouldn’t drive, work, or make important decisions for the rest of the day.
Does a Portland sedation dentist charge extra for IV?
Yes. IV sedation is an added cost on top of the treatment. You’ll see the number in your written estimate before you decide, and Cherry Finance can spread it over months.
