Surgery with a dentist who already knows you

When a tooth needs to come out the hard way, or the jaw needs rebuilding before an implant, most general dentists send you to a specialist. Dr. Cho does the surgery himself, in the same office where you get your cleanings.

Your scans, your history, and your follow-ups stay in one place. So does the person who knows what you're nervous about.

What Portland oral surgery covers here

  • Wisdom Teeth Removal

Impacted, partially erupted, or crowding the teeth in front of them. Removed here with oral or IV sedation, often all at once.

  • Surgical Extractions

For teeth broken at the gumline, roots that curve, or teeth that never came in. Sometimes the tooth comes out in sections so the bone around it stays intact.

  • Dental Implants

A titanium post placed in the jaw, guided by a 3D plan. Dr. Cho places the implant and restores it afterward, so nothing gets lost between two offices.

  • Bone Grafting

Socket preservation at the extraction visit, sinus lifts, and guided bone and tissue regeneration. The graft material depends on your case: your own bone, donor bone, or bovine or porcine material.

  • Gum Grafting

Covers receding gums to protect exposed roots, using your own tissue or donor tissue.

Every surgery starts with a 3D scan

A cone beam CT shows the roots, the bone, the nerve, and the sinus before anything happens. For implants, Dr. Cho prints a surgical guide in-house so the post goes exactly where it was planned.

Sedation, matched to the procedure

  • Nitrous for a simple extraction.
  • Oral sedation for longer visits.
  • Full IV sedation for wisdom teeth, implant surgery, or anyone who can't do the dentist any other way.

With oral or IV sedation, most patients remember little of the appointment.

Why Portland patients choose Life Bloom Dental for oral surgery

  • Surgical training, every year

DMD from OHSU, more than 100 hours of continuing education a year focused on surgery and sedation, and membership in the ITI Study Club.

  • From extraction to crown in one office

The tooth comes out, the bone is preserved, the implant goes in, and the crown goes on top. Same dentist, same chair.

  • Honest about fit

If another provider is better suited to your case, Dr. Cho will tell you and help you get there.

Paying for oral surgery

  • Dr. Cho talking with a patient in the office

    With insurance

Coverage for surgery varies by plan. We check your benefits and give you a written estimate before anything starts.

    For larger treatments

Membership Club members save on treatment. Cherry Finance spreads larger costs, like wisdom teeth or an extraction plus implant, over monthly payments. Cash, check, and card all work too.

Questions people ask about oral surgery in Portland

Do I need a referral for oral surgery in Portland?

No. Book directly with us. Dr. Cho handles wisdom teeth, surgical extractions, implants, and grafting here.

Can a general dentist do oral surgery?

Yes, when they’re trained for it. Dr. Cho focuses most of his continuing education on surgery and sedation and plans every case in 3D. If something is outside what’s right for this office, he’ll say so.

Will I be awake?

Only if you want to be. The area is fully numbed either way. With oral or IV sedation, most patients remember little or nothing of the procedure.

How long is recovery after oral surgery?

It depends on the procedure. A simple extraction takes a few days. After implants and grafts, most people feel fine within a week, while the bone keeps healing for a few months. You’ll get a timeline at the consult.

How much does oral surgery cost in Portland?

It depends on what you need and what your insurance covers. You’ll get a written estimate at the consult, and the consult itself is free.

How do I get ready for surgery day?

Arrange a driver if you’re having oral or IV sedation, and follow the eating and medication instructions we send after the consult. Everything else is handled here.

Really lovely first appointment after not seeing a dentist for a few years due to insurance. Very kind staff, no judgment, and made me feel comfortable through the whole cleaning /x-ray process. Highly recommend!

I came to Life Bloom Dental for an implant consultation. The staff and doctor are very nice and friendly. They explained things clearly. They listened to my questions patiently and answered all of them. They showed me the x-ray images and explained details of my tooth issue and the procedures they would take. Very good experience.
