What is dental bonding?
Dental bonding is made out of a synthetic material bonded directly to teeth that repairs and improves the appearance of a tooth. Typically used in cosmetic procedures to repair chipped teeth, dental bonding can also close gaps, fill in spaces, or even reshape a tooth into a more ideal shape.
When performing dental bonding, the dentist will lightly etch the surface and apply a bonding liquid. Once the liquid sets, they will apply a synthetic resin, sculpt it, and then cure into the desired shape. The dentist will then trim, smooth, and polish the resin into a new beautiful smile!
How long does dental bonding last?
Dental bonding doesn’t last as long as veneers, but it should last 7 to 10 years when well maintained and properly cared for. It is prone to chipping and cracking so you should avoid hard candy, chewing ice cubes, and wear a night guard if you grind your teeth. Dental bonding will also stain faster than veneers but that can sometimes be polished during your regular dental checkups.
